Significant Stories of Changes by SNP+
Case 1: On 19th Oct, 2021 one of our PLHIV pregnant woman Rani Mondal, Husband Name: Joy Biswas (Name changed) reside at Piyali, Canning, Suddenly at night she felt her labor pain and went to Baruipur Super specialty Hospital but after knowing her HIV status declared by the patient Party respected doctor who was on duty refer her at Chittaranjan Medical Collage & Hospital after a primary check-up, without any referral reason mentioned in the referral copy. From 8PM to 12 PM she was at Hospital premises, after knowing the status of the patient SNP+ network and CSC staff contacted with JDCST Sir and Doctor Sumon Ganguly , even CSC staff also informed the PPTCT program officer and ICTC Counselor of Baruipur Hospital. After continuous effort of JDCST sir and Dr. Sumon Ganguly sir, hospital superintendent of Baruipur hospital admitted the clients and after the primary checkup doctor referred her at Chittaranjan Medical Collage at 1.30A.M. On 21st October 2021 Rajosree gave birth of a baby boy. There is no such issue in ChittyaRanjan National Medical Collage & Hospital, Doctors & staff are very much helpful .Now the Child is little sick and under the doctor observations.
Case 2: On 15/6/21 we came to know that one homeless lady was found positive in Byanjanheria Charial BPHC, Budge Budge Block I. The name of the lady is Bani Prasad (Name changed) aged 42. Her family member kicked her out from her home. We got the information from DPM of Kolkata and also BMOH of Budge Budge Byanjanheria Charial BPHC Hospital. After knowing the fact we had send our ORW Susuma Sarkar to that Hospital on 17/6/21 So that we can initiate the ART of that client from MRBH ARTC. Though the BMOH arraigned ambulance for the client because of the transportation was not available on that time due to lockdown situation. The lady had no identity card for that reason ARTC was not allowing her for registration but the Project Coordinator of the CSC had mailed the MRBH ARTC so that ART can start. In that same time we had told for a place in Arunima Hospice to kept her after the ART started and mailed the authority of Arunima Hospice. After that BMOH kept the lady more 5 days for observation as the woman was very sick. Now the woman is in Budge Budge Byanjanheria Charial BPHC Hospital. After recovery her weakness we will admit her in Arunima Hospice.
Case 3: One of our clients named Sushmita Roy (Name changed); aged 69 reside at 38 Monmohan Banerjee Road PO- Sahapur, PS-Behala Kol-38, She has taken ART treatment from MRBH ARTC , her ART number is 5141(2/3/21). In the 2nd wave of COVID her husband was found positive and was hospitalized and she was under home quarantine. After that she called our CSC staff for help as she had missed her due date on 21/4/21. After knowing the fact Deepshikha CSC Project Coordinator emailed to the NODAL officer for providing the ART drug to our staff. Our Health promoter Jarina Gharami had collected the medicine from ARTC and delivered it to the old lady on 22/4/21.so that she can get the ARV drug on time. Though she had lost her husband on 21/4/21 but she is happy as she found CSC staff is present beside her in the crucial time when the whole world is maintaining social distancing.
Case 4: One of our clients Mrs. Tinku Roy (Original Name) previously lived at Jadavpur in a Private Asharam in the year of 2005 for three years with three children. Her husband worked in Bombay. Her husband had been tested HIV at Bombay in the year of 2006 at private hospital. Her husband was banished from his work after knowing the HIV status. Later knowing the status of her husband, Tinku Roy also tested for HIV and found positive at MRBH hospital. sadly her children were also found HIV positive. Then after knowing the HIV status Tinku Roy was banished from the Ashram with her children and became homeless with three children. In this extreme situation, when Mrs. Tinku Roy was taking continuously treatment from MRBH hospital but had no economic support for proper food and shelter, she suddenly she came in contact with SNP+ for Mental & psychological support. Then after Mrs. Tinku Roy got a job in this organization and her children was admitted to the home for care Support & treatment. In this situation Mrs. Tinku Roy is empowered for herself and also for her children who are now studying the graduation. She also bought 2 khata of land for building her home. Now she is belonging to very happy life.
Case 5: 
Neha so was so excited as she celebrated the New Year on 1st January 2020 with her friends and family in Kolkata. Her mother made some good food and sweets for Neha and her siblings and they enjoyed eating and sharing their joy with their friends from the neighborhood. She felt special that day, as occasions of happiness is few in a child’s life when they are HIV positive, due to the health concerns and stigma, which is an add-on in their lives. She did not realize that this happiness will not last long in her family. Both her parents were HIV positive and were not regular for the treatments, due to which she lost her father 4 months back.
Neha is a 11 years old girl studying in class 4. She has two younger brothers and her mother who now looks after them. After the demise of her father who was the bread earner for the family, it became very difficult for the family to run their expenses and so her mother, Reena, who is also a HIV positive decided to work in homes as a house cleaner. It was only 1 month when her mother had started to work when the COVID 19 restriction came upon them as a shock due to the lockdown. Her mother became helpless with no work as it affected the expenses of the family. They had very limited food supply at home. There were days also when they ate less so that the supplies could be available for more number of days.
The network group taking care of the needs of the PLHIV then came to their help and supported the family with food supplies. This help was for few days only as with the lockdowns being extended it has become very difficult for Neha’s family to earn a living for themselves. Due to the intervention of the network group Neha and her mother Reena are brought back in to the treatment regime and now getting nutritional support from SNP+.
Case 6: Pranab Sardar is a cute little boy of 6 years whose resides at a small village named Bahirkunja under Nodakhali Police Station of South 24 Parganas. His natal day as registered in the Network is 11/02/06. Pranab is found HIV- Non reactive. Pranab’s father Late Pavan Sardar was a migrant labourer. He was infected with dreadful HIV virus and got his contraction due to his irresistible sexual behaviour while he resided in another province far away from home (as per Sabita’s version). Sabita Sardar is an innocent lady and got her HIV contraction from beloved husband. Sabita is the victim of HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination, which results in being shunned by family and severe familial disapproval. By this deprivation process, day by day Sabita spoils her normal identity. Maltreatment from the relatives is negatively affecting the quality upbringing of innocent Pranab. The child is been neglected and nobody is there to look after the child except his mother.
Sabita wants to keep her child in a residential home for providing him with quality upbringing. She has already been outcaste by her in-laws. Total blame of being HIV+ve is attributing on Sabita by them. She is now residing at her paternal house where familial strife is her daily companion. Sabita is now working as volunteer in the SNP+. With due support from the organization, Pranab is now admitted in Gutari Primary School in upper KG. He is very studious in nature. Immense poverty due to sudden demise of Pavan results in fragile economic infrastructure of the household, which has plagued the ability of Sabita to nurture her child, but she is getting immense support from SNP+.
Case 7: Anjuara Khatun, a sweet girl of six and half years of age. Her birthday as recorded in the Network register is 12th December’2004. She resides in the small village of Bilandpur of Magrahat in the district of South 24 Parganas. She is HIV non-reactive.
Anjuara’s father Aizul Haque Fakir was an auto rickshaw puller. He was HIV reactive. Her mother Sahida Begum is also HIV+ and a homemaker. She has no means of earning. Her elder brother Saidul is the only bread winner of the family. Anjuara reads in a primary school adjacent to their home. She likes to solve problems of mathematics. She dances very well. Her mother is incapable of admitting her in a dance school. She also loves to recite poems in Bengali.
Sahida’s financial condition is very worse and can’t provide her child with better upbringing. It has been very much troublesome for Sahida to pay Rs. 30/- to the private tutor as monthly fee.
Sahida has another boy child so she is overburdened with her big family and has no financial escape to sustain their livelihood. So she wants to keep Anjuara in a residential home. She loves her girl child unfathomably but reality compels her to detach Anjuara from her lap!! SNP+ have arranged safe shelter home and educational and nutritional support for Anjuara to make her life enlightened from the stigma and discriminatory life in her village. Is it possible to bring ray of hope in the life of this sweet child!!
Case 8: Ruma Rui das and her husband Joydev Munda resided at Kashiabad Munda Para , Po-Kashiabad, Ps-Dhola, South 24 parganas, west Bengal. Ruma Rui Das was HIV positive and also she was pregnant. Hence for regular ANC she went to local health centre. There as regular blood test formality, she was tested for HIV and as known the result came positive. Though she knew about her HIV status, the ASHA worker of her village didn’t knew the information. Now in this situation, when she came to know that Ruma is HIV positive person, she started to spread this news in the entire village. As of the miss-conception about HIV, people started to hate Ruma and also started to threat Ruma’s entire family to banish from their village. One sudden evening, some villagers, along with that ASHA worker and her politically popular husband gathered in front of their house and started to through hate speeches and many other threatening comments to Ruma and her family. In such unbearable situation, Ruma fled away from her village house and started to live in a rented flat in Narendrapur. She then came to SNP+ for support and submitted a written complaint against that ASHA staff and other villagers. From the very moment, SNP+ CSC & TI-LWS team got involved in this case and initiated their technical procedures to get reed of this stigma & discriminating incident. SNP+ primarily contacted the District Chief Medical Officer of Health and informed him about the incident through email. Later SNP+ team went to that village and formal conversation took place between the villagers and SNP+ team. Team also communicated with CMOH face-to-face along with Ruma Rui Das and requested for corrective measure against the health worker involved for such incident. Later formal GD was launched in the Dhola Police Station regarding this issue. Later CMOH formed a committee to resolve the issue and also have submitted the report to the higher authorities for strict measure against the unethical practice of that ASHA worker. Besides that, Local Police also have conducted the routine investigation regarding the same.
The final update was collected by SNP+ from the CMOH of Diamond Harbour who told that He had a telephonic conversation with Ruma Rui Das, who told that she is residing in Narendrapur for working purpose, but in the weekends, she visits her home in the village and no problem arrived from the neighbour about her PLHIV status. Thus SNP+ solved one critical Stigma & Discriminating incident against one PLHIV member and made her life comfortable & secured.
Case 9: 
One of our clients named Samita Roy; aged 69 reside at 38 Monmohan Banerjee Road PO- Sahapur, PS-Behala Kol-38, She has taken ART treatment from MRBH ARTC , her ART number is 5141(2/3/21). Case 10: Report of a 35-year-old female named Aparna Nasker and her Husband, a resident in the South 24 Parganas of Baruipur, She was diagnosed with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in 2005. In 2005, the first episode of visceral leishmaniasis (VL), as assessed by parasitological diagnosis of bone marrow aspirate, was recorded. When admitted to the hospital, the patient presented fever, hepatosplenomegaly, weight loss, and diarrhoea. Since then, six additional episodes of HIV occurred. However, since 2006 reported toxicity and amphotericin B. As recommended by the South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (SNP+), this report emphasizes the need for HIV patients living in VL endemic areas to include these parasitoids in their follow-up protocol, particularly after the first infection of HIV. Then they were join in first CBO named South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (SNP+) in 2005, then they were went to M. R. Bangur Hospital to treat HIV by this Organization Support and started ART treatment . From South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (SNP+), they were taken GR support and some money to make a Grocery Shop to continue their livelihood. Now-a –days Aparna & Her Husband take ART and also economically sufficient. They are so happy family only for this Organization now.

Case 13: One of our PLHIV Client Mr. Allauddin Gayen, reside at Parui, Po-Kestopur, Ps-Magrahat, South 24 parganas, west Bengal, Allauddin Gayen was HIV positive. He was suffered from a serious stigma phase in his home. As the ASHA worker know his HIV status, she started to Danish his from his social life by not allowed his get out of his house and also detailed his earn his daily wages & also spared this news among the neighbours. She then came to SNP+ for support and submitted a written complaint against that ASHA staff and other villagers. From the very moment, SNP+ got involved in this case and initiated their technical procedures to get reed of this stigma & discriminating incident. SNP+ primarily contacted the District Chief Medical Officer of Health and informed him about the incident through email. Later SNP+ team went to that village and formal conversation took place between the villagers and SNP+ team. The final update was collected by SNP+ from the conversation with Allauddin Gayan, who told that he has worked his work place and no problem arrived from the neighbour about her PLHIV status. Thus SNP+ solved one critical Stigma & Discriminating incident against one PLHIV member of their organization.
Case 14: Report of a 22-year- female named Hemangini Nasker, a resident in the South 24 Parganas of Baruipur, She was diagnosed with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in 2005 . When admitted to the M.R.Bangoor hospital for the many kind and helpful ORWs & CLWs of South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS(SNP+), the patient presented fever, hepatitis, weight loss, and diarrhea. As recommended by the South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS(SNP+), the need for HIV patients living in areas, particularly after the first infection of HIV. In childhood, they were very poor Family, She said , for their Parents faults, she born in HIV families, her mother and father both are human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Her Brother was born-died in this incident. they were join in first NGO/CBO named South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS(SNP+) in 2005, then they were went to M. R. Bangoor Hospital to treat HIV by this Organization Support and started ART treatment. From South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS(SNP+), they were taken GR support (2005-2015) and some money to make a Grocery shop to support their family to continue their livelihood. For the Organization Cooperation, Hemangini Nasker take to study- expenses and when she become 21 years old, she got a job in the Organization as a Cluster Link Worker in Link Worker Scheme in TI-LWS Program . Now-a –days Aparna and Her Husband Dilip Nasker and only Daughter Hemangini take ART and they are happy family only for this Organization.
Case 15:
One of our PLHIV women name Salema Bibi, aged 39, she reside at Herobhanga, PO-Tangrakhali, PS-Canning, Jibantala, south 24 Parganas PIN no-743329. Her HIV detected on 3/9/14, PRE ART no-2955 (9/2/15), ART no-2137(5/9/14), She is under ART treatment at MRBH ARTC. When she was detected as HIV positive then CBINNAT test done and also detected as TB positive. Her husband and son are also HIV positive. Salema’s husband is a farmer and she is a housewife. In this situation, it was impossible for the family to get proper nutrition as necessary to consume the DOTs and ART medicines. Along with that, both husband and son also needed proper nutrition for ART medicine consumption. In this situation, SNP+ was informed about the family. SNP+ at the earliest started to help them.
Primarily the lady and her son Jamir Ali Khan got nutrition support from SNP+ every month. Along with that, they were also given free travel pass to collect medicines from MRBH. Her husband was linked to General Ration Support from the BDO Office. Her son also gets financial support for education from DCPO every month.
That is how SNP+ is committed to deliver care and support for PLHIV as well as HRG populations to live their life through CSC & TI programs.
Case 16: 
One of our PLHIV clients age 44 reside at Padmapukur, PO- Khalyamara, PS-Joynagar , in south 24 Pargana district, west Bengal. This client is under ART treatment from MRBH ARTC, His ART no- is 2409(20/5/2015). His wife is also HIV reactive, both of them are registered at our CSC and as well as member of SNP+. He has 2 children who are non-reactive. He worked in a small shop in his village but due to COVID -19 pandemic situation he lost his job and even he was not able to visit at ARTC for collect their medicine, in this situation he had called our ORW for help, our staff than informed the project Coordinator for home dispensing of ARV drug. With the support of SNP+ staff we had provided them 3 months medicine as well as 2 packets of dry ration contained of rice, pulses, wheat, milk powder , biscuits, salt , tea , mask , soap etc. We helped him for next 2 months in the same way.
SNP+ had also submitted a list for education sponsorship to the CDPO of south 24 Pargana so that his child could get the help, this process will be started after the election result.
Now he get a new job and he is quite happy. On last month he visited our CSC for convey his gratitude for the help which we had provided him during the lockdown situation.
Case 17: One of our clients named Jyotsna Ghosh; aged 47 reside at Nandan pally PO- Canning, PS-Canning Dist.-South 24 Parganas pin-743329. In the year of 2004 Mrs. Jyotsna Ghosh was reactive, at first; Mrs. Jyotsna Ghosh was affected in opportunity infection with weakness and weight loss day by day. Then after she went to hospital for treatment and after digenesis, the doctor has suggested testing blood. When she was known the HIV positive & taken ART treatment from MRBH ARTC, her ART number is 1356.When she had known the HIV status then after broken down her mental health and she was thinking that how to recover my life in our society. She had gone through a long sad history before she came to know her HIV status. Her husband died in an accident. Then she had a daughter. Later her family members again forced him to marry and then she got married second time. But this time also her husband left her and moved to other state. She lived with one child without father. Then she met with Mr. Kshitish Mondal, the president of SNP+. Mr. Kshitish Mondal said, he is an HIV positive person, and living long to take treatment the art drugs. So don’t worry for this virus you also get good health for the process of treatment. Next Jyotsna Ghosh has connected to the HIV positive network with 7 board members & selected the vice president of SNP+. In that time, she was connected to SNP+ for mental health support & various services for life. In this time, she is empowered.
Case 18: In the Block of Basanti ,Gram-Panchayet Ram Chandra khali, in khejurtala Village lived Rejina Lasker in a very poor family in a Muslim Family. In 2022 1 st August She Reported to a Cluster Link Worker named Kakali Nayek Sardar in Link Worker Scheme of South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS(SNP+) that She Suffered by villagers and her daughter disturbed for her Father-in-law and rusticated from Father-in-law’s house . She is 34 years old and has one son and one daughter. A resident in the South 24 Parganas of Basanti Block, She was diagnosed with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in 2021. She ignored by her husband when she treated to the M.R.Bangoor hospital for the cooperation of the CLWs in link worker scheme of South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS(SNP+), She got fever, hepatitis, weight loss, and diarrhoea. As recommended by the South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS(SNP+). After the date of treatment, she totally disturbance by the villagers, Husband, father-in- law and Mother-in-law, for this reason She pressurize to her Mother to take a decision to solve the Stigma Reduction. After few days, she rusticated from Father-in-law’s house, and then She and his mother went to Gram-Panchayat and Police Station to take action for her family but nobody solved these problem; at last they went South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS(SNP+) and solve the problem. In 2022 3 rd August; PD Kshitish Mondal (HIV+), Susanta Pramanik (HIV+) DRP Dr. Chitradip Bhattacherjee, Zonal Supervisor Zakir Hossain Piada and Cluster Link Workes in Link Worker Scheme of South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS(SNP+) join in The Stigma Reduction Activity Meeting to take Action to relief these family. In this meeting join the ICTC Counsellor and one or two ASHA workers and Gram Panchayet Member. In this Meeting, to take action to the Villagers, and ordered to accept the Ignored Family and polite behaviour for the family, and also said for the family by fully support of the South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS(SNP+) and requested to Police Division. to care and support the family anytime, anywhere. Now-a –days they were join in family by the cooperation of South 24 PG Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS(SNP+), then they were went to M. R. Bangoor Hospital to treat HIV by this Organization Support and started ART treatment. They and their family to continue their livelihood now as in Happy Life
Case 19: 
Sonu is a 9-year-old boy who loves playing outdoor games with his friends and loves eating rolls. He studies in class 3 and is good in studies. Sonu’s father Momin, is a daily waged labour who tries to provide his best for Sonu and his sister. Sonu’s father was married and his wife passed away due to sickness after which he married Sonu’s mother. Sonu’s father is HIV positive and his mother too was infected due to their negligence, which also resulted in Sonu being positive too. In spite of the health concerns, Sonu and his family enjoy every moment in life with whatever they have. This enjoyment has now come to a halt, as due to the lockdown Sonu’s father is unable to go for work. Sonu hardly realises what problems the family is going through. A small 9 year old boy sometimes fails to understand the health crisis the world is facing as he demands for his things and his father has limited options to fulfil them. With the COVID 19 restrictions Sonu’s family has struggled a lot as his father is old aged and is unfit but has to look after the family in spite of all difficulties. His parents have ended up having less number of meals so that the food stock can be kept for more number of days. Sonu does not understand why his parents eat less and often questions them for which his parents have no answer, as they do not want him to feel the pinch of having less food at home. Sonu and his parents are registered with the SNP+ network and when it was learnt that they are facing problems for food the network group provided them with good food. Sonu was happy to have them but this cannot continue long. Due to the lockdown extensions in Kolkata, his family is struggling to have proper Nutrition. After lookdown situation, they are again on their way of regular life and also they are getting all the facilities from SNP+ in their livelihood.
Case 20: Jarina Gharami lived in baruipur area with her daughter and husband. Her husband was a migrant labour. They were living a happy life when due to recurrent fever she went to Baruipur Hospital and after ICTC screening and testing; she came to know that she is HIV Positive. Later on it was found that both her daughter and husband are also HIV positive. After hearing this from the doctor, she was broken down mentally. When she used to cry at home, her Neighbours came to know, that she was affected by HIV, and then the neighbours started treating them separately. They didn’t allowed their children to play with her daughter. Afterwards their treatment was started at medical hospital. Then she & her family came to know that there is a one organization that is called SNP+. After visiting this organization, they got hope of light to live. SNP+ team went to their village and then told to everyone that what is the exact meaning of HIV and how does it spread. They were living their lives very painfully. After some days her husband passed away. She was living their lives with their children without foods and helpless. In this situation, SNP+ spread their helping hand to them. She got a job in SNP+ to earn her livelihood. Beside this, her daughter also got nutritional and educational support from the organization. Now a days, they are living a happy life with the help of SNP+.
